I Know What! Let’s Give Money to Our Competitors!

Of course, nobody would say that. Nobody wants to give money to the competition.

Things is though, practically every business out there does it.

Here’s why:

You, like any other business, have a bunch of opportunities to serve people.

To earn money, and have impact, whatever it is you do, because you have a database.

You have past clients, current clients, you have prospects, you have people who could be an ally, you have people who would partner with you.

And this goes for every business, and nearly every business under-utilises the potential there.

But when you don’t show up and talk to the people who need what you do… well, they might not remember you when the time comes to buy a solution.

Or they might not have the clarity on what you could do for them, and how you could solve their problem in a way that makes them want to buy from you.

But if they want a solution for this problem, and they need that solution, and they need it now, they’re going to look for whoever is the most qualified in their eyes to solve that problem for them.

And they’re going to go and pay that person.

And if that’s not you, simply because you have not done your job in talking to people, well, then you’re effectively giving money to your competition.

Not a good idea.

So what you want to do is look at your database, go through the names, and see what these people have bought in the past.

Then, ask yourself:

What would want to buy next, what would help them? What would they need now?

Next, you figure out what kind of message you need to put in front of them, what kind of communication, so that they’re aware that you might be the most qualified and the best solution for their problem.

In other words: you need to talk to your people.

If you don’t, they buy from someone else and not you, meaning you basically hand cash to the competition.

A lot of businesses do a lousy job of staying top-of-mind, and that’s where you find your opportunities.

There’s people out there who need you – if not now, then at some point.

Go talk to those people.
