Why High Heels Make Your Business Look Like a Cow

It’s summer in Europe, and that means fancy dress here in Spain.

After being stuck inside all winter, people really grab the opportunity to go out once summer is in full swing.

They party, they meet with friends and go to concerts, and I can tell you the Spanish sure like to look good while they’re at it.

So we see silk shirts, laced dresses, lots of makeup, and hairdos that must have cost a small fortune.

And we see high heels. Really high heels.

Now, don’t get me wrong: I love to see a woman well-dressed, decked out in a fine ensemble, with tasteful makeup framed by a beautiful haircut.

I also like to see a woman wear high heels – but I have my sensitivities, you know?

Specifically, when I see a woman wearing heels that are just waaaay too high.

While high heels are meant to enhance appearance and lend the wearer elegance, the effect disappears completely if the heels are too high.

It looks so shockingly unelegant: trotting around on stilts, wobbling, every step an angular clunk.

Reminds me of cows walking through a swampy meadow.


Why does that matter to business?

Well, there are many companies out there that think they should wear high heels, as high as they can. Because apparently, that looks sexy.


Except it doesn’t. Overdoing it isn’t sexy – it’s hideous.

Companies like that try to look good with their website and their branding, but it’s too much, it’s over the top.

The images too perfect, the site too polished, the copy bloated – and instead of inspiring trust and motivating people into action, the brand actually makes people recoil.


The solution? Get a second opinion.

As a business owner you’re too up-close, and it’s well-nigh impossible to correctly assess your own branding.

In other words: You don’t know if your business is wearing heels that are too high.

Have an expert eye go over your site. Very often, the way we see ourselves in the mirror is at gross discord with the way others perceive us, and the same goes for business.

Having a third party give an objective opinion is like asking your BFF if your outfit looks good – and there’s nothing like the opinion of a BFF.
