Are you Creative or Reactive?

A while ago I listened to an interview with a coach named Steve Chandler.

He said something that rang very true.

It’s a good question to ask yourself.

Because I’ll bet you consider yourself a creative agent – and I wouldn’t dispute it.

I mean, you’re an artist of some sort – you couldn’t be if you’re not creative.

But are you not being reactive?

As in: Where it comes to building your art business…

You know, all those fun things like growing your audience, building your list, increasing sales…

Are you actually being creative in that sense?

Or do you just sit and wait – react to what impulses reach you…?

If so, you could be in for a long long wait, you know.

Very few people -if any – ever get handed their success on a silver platter.

I sure didn’t – I had to work for it, and still do.

And if you look around, you’ll see that most anyone has had to work hard.

The saying “It took me decades to become an overnight success” is no joke.

The good thing is that as an artist, as a creative person, you are eminently equipped to create and build and manifest the career and success you want.

But that will only work if you get active and stop being reactive.

Like I’m fond of saying: The future is what you create now.

You build your own reality.

If you watch reality TV you’re not growing your list.

If you listen to other artists complain, you’re not building your own healthy mindset.

And if you’re always holed up in your studio, you’re not creating exposure and visibility.

The choice is yours…
